We work with some pretty incredible organizations, helping them manage and effectively engage with their volunteers to further their impact in their community. Our Customer Spotlight series is a way to show off some of these real and admirable organizations, showing practically how CERVIS can help organizations (just like yours!) achieve their goals.

Today we are excited to feature Cherokee County Meals on Wheels. Founded in 1984 with 20 meals on two routes, Cherokee County Meals on Wheels has grown over the years to serve over 360 meals on more than 25 routes. They are currently in construction for an expansion to their building with a new lobby, offices, and kitchen that will be able to accommodate 1000 meals! While they have grown and changed over the years, their mission has stayed the same - to have compassion for others in need and create an environment for volunteers to find purpose and meaning. Assistant Director, Jennifer Robbins, shared with us the great work her organization is doing and how CERVIS has “been a game changer” for their volunteer program!

Tell us about your volunteers:

From our kitchen, to the roads, to the front door of homes all over Cherokee County, our mission is carried out daily by a huge team of volunteers from all walks of life: college students, homeschooling families, retirees, employees on their lunch break, and everything in between. We are feeding and checking on those who might need a little extra help, and who need to see a smiling face bringing a hot nutritious meal while they may otherwise not have had one. We have some of the finest people in Cherokee County who choose to volunteer with us, and we couldn't do this work without our volunteers!

Tell us about working with CERVIS:

Before we had CERVIS, we organized our route coordination on huge calendars or on paper. This was a nightmare to maintain and very time consuming. When we started with CERVIS, we immediately had everything easy to organize online and all our staff could see what volunteers were scheduled or what needs we had at the same time. It also allowed us to schedule people remotely, and since we have volunteers contact us at all hours of the day, this helped to be able to instantly see needs in real time.
Another huge benefit of CERVIS is that it has broadened our volunteer base quickly and expanded our reach for exposure in the community. CERVIS has helped us reach a younger generation by enabling us to be able to accommodate volunteers who are seasonal or single-serve individuals like many students. We are the only Meals On Wheels program in the upstate of South Carolina to offer the option of signing up for volunteer opportunities online, and we are pretty proud of that, especially being one of the smaller programs.
Additionally, this year, for the first time in the history of our program, we are accurately tracking all volunteer hours! For many years, if we needed to give that information for grant writing purposes, we would simply estimate. With the more accurate tracking, we can see now that we were underestimating volunteer hours for all those years.
We love that CERVIS is completely customizable, easy to set up, maintain and use, and allows volunteers to engage more deeply. It allows us to communicate with larger groups of people and enables new volunteers to sign up for opportunities independently. We searched for other platforms for years until we found CERVIS, and now we would not use anything else! CERVIS makes my job much easier, and as a volunteer coordinator of a meal program with over 700 active volunteers, that makes CERVIS extremely important to our organization!
